By Chance Farm

By Chance Farm has two resident horses belonging to Charlene and Michele. At some point in the future, Michele hopes to purchase another horse to ride and train in dressage or jumping.

Betsy – aka Betty Boop

Betsy is a 1999 model chestnut Appaloosa mare. Charlene and Michele purchased Betsy at 4 years old to be Charlene’s riding horse. Betsy had such a great mind, they knew she would be perfect for Charlene. Betsy was bred by a long-time friend Tammy Naill-Waddell who also bred Lady In Red, a previous competition horse of Michele’s. Betsy enjoys her days turned out with her best bud, Beau. She also enjoys an occasional trail ride with Charlene and the farm dogs. Betty Boop is the By Chance mascot!

Penelope – aka “P”

Penelope is a new addition to By Chance Farm. We purchased “P” in 2014 as a project. P is a 2008 model Dutch Warmblood/Dutch Harness Horse cross. She was broke to drive and has quite a bit of knee action at the trot. We think P has a lot of potential to be a great Amateur or Junior horse. She is very green, but a quick learner with a great mind. We look forward to seeing how she progresses!

Roxy – aka Roxaroo

Roxy is a 1991 model black-bay grade mare. Roxy came to live at By Chance in 2011 after retiring from a career as a lesson horse. Roxy wasn’t so sure about turnout when she first arrived, but she has since learned to love her new life of leisure! She can’t stand being in a stall when she knows her friends are outside. Roxy has earned her retirement and will live out her days at By Chance Farm enjoying her new friends.

Past Horses

Nova

Nova
Nova came to By Chance farm in December of 2012. We called him the “Christmas” pony. He was rescued by a group of boarders because he wasn’t being cared for properly. When he arrived, he was evaluated as a “2” body condition which is very poor. We gave him good food, clean water and a stall to live in so he could recover from starvation. We found him a loving home with a family in Thurmont, MD who will care for him and take him on trail rides with their children.

Rocky – aka Anthtracite

Rocky-ws
Rocky was a project horse off the Penn National racetrack. He was just coming 3 years old when purchased by Michele. During his time at By Chance, Rocky learned about dressage and jumping, starting a new career. He now lives in New Hampshire with a young rider who events him.

Blaze – aka Lady In Red

Blaze-ws
Blaze was given to Michele by Tammy who also bred Betsy. Blaze was a green 3 year old when she first arrived and during her time at By Chance, blossomed into a fantastic event horse. Blaze was the 2006 USEA Area II Training level Champion and that year finished in the Top Ten in the country. Blaze also competed through the Preliminary level with Michele before being sold to an Adult Amateur. Blaze is now with a young rider in Kentucky prepping for a move back up to Preliminary.
